Storyboard Adjustments in Greater Detail
To ensure that we get the storyboard as close to perfect as possible this time we need to make sure we go over the finer elements in more detail. The aspect that we are going to change need the most thought put into them to ensure that they wont have to be changed again. The overall new 'look' that we are going for with the storyboard is to make it more engaging and compelling to watch for our demography. The diagram below outlines all of element that we have decided to change or enhance.

When we thought about adding more of a narrative we discussed the option of her walking throughout the music, creating an enigma for the audience, then at the end it would reveal where she was walking to (the resolution). However Andrew Goodwin stated that a music video should have a linear narrative due to the cyclical nature of music videos. We decided to have a 5 minute personal brainstorm to get together our ideas, and one of the ideas that I came up with in this time was for the 'place that she is walking to' to be the recording studio/performance element of the piece. This completely changed the structure to the storyboard and it also made it non linear- complying with Goodwin's theories. The performance would be happening thoughout (like a flash forward) because in the narrative scenes, she hasnt got there yet.
One of the other comments that we got fed back was about it being to tedious and monotonous. We felt that this was due to having a still camera at only a specific number angles and distances. We have decided to add more movement in the camera. Many existing music videos are comprised of solely pans and tracks so this is the approach that we will take. Therefore we will carry out some experiments to see how theses work with our song and actress. Overall we feel that this will engage our demography more and make it look more authentic.
When started putting forward initial ideas for the storyboard we discussed and agreed that a performance would look more effective and would fit more with what our demography currently watch, however from research, hind-sight from our anamatic, and looking into the genre of song more we decided that it needs a stronger element of narration to keep the audience engaged. One of the ideas that we are currently discussing is the use of flashbacks, however as of yet we are unsure where these will be to, or what they will be depicting.
Not one of the people who saw our anamatic clip disagreed that the changing backgrounds bit was the strongest element of our video. It quickens the beat of our music video and also it creates a memorable aspect for the audience as it is visually stimulating. We will need to work on the lip sync in this area to make it more authentic however we also though about the possibility of expanding it further, for instance we could have her walking side ways with the background changing behind her.
When we realised how much of the story board was desparate to be changed and improved we started looking over existing product again and one which stood out for us was a Kelly Clarkson video. It resinated for us because of its use of lighting. It had the same basis as our performance scene however with the use of light, hers looked exciting, entertaining, and the pace was kept; where as ours looked boring and bland. We have recently experimented with using the lights and they create the drama that we are after so we will use them in our new storyboard.
